I came across this nice lady doing “solehiya” work on a sofa frame. Solehiya is the traditional art of making chair, sofa and seat-back cushions using strips of rattan which are woven into a mesh pattern for strength. The rattan is usually varnished after weaving which gives it a weather-proof finish with a nice patina. It’s always good to see that the craft of traditional furniture-making is still alive and doing well.
